Overview
Long ago, the lands were ruled by dragons—great furred beasts with impressive feathered beasts. From the fields of the south, through the midland hills, and all the way to the forests in the north was their domain. They were a collaborative society that roamed the lands and were great magicians. They settled their issues with debate and rarely was violence a factor in their communities. However, they constantly faced siege from the demons of the south. Horrible, scaled beasts with sharp horns and webbed wings would assault them, slaughtering the dragons indiscriminately, stealing their valuables, and setting the lands ablaze with their fiery breath. In a desparate attempt to drive them away, the dragons created an army to defend them: the Dragonids.
The Draconids were far smaller than the dragons, standing on two legs instead of four, but bore great resemblance to them. Grateful for their creators, the Dragonids did as they were asked and drove the demons away from the land. The dragons were thankful to them and, as a reward, decided to bestow the lands upon them. They wanted their children to thrive and grow, which meant that the dragons had to depart. Before they left, the dragons gave their children one final thing: a warning. A prophecy spoken aloud warned the Draconids of a traitor. One of their leaders was sure to betray them, with the power to call upon the demons, and would bring complete and total destruction to the lands. The dragons crafted a a magical artifact that would test the goodness of one's heart. Thus, the Draconids could discover the chosen one from the prophecy and stop them before their lands could be destroyed.
And thus, the dragons departed, and the Draconids built their civilization. To the south stands an old and proud kingdom, with their royal family leading back to the first person to receieve the dragon's artifact. In the gentle rolling fields they raise animals and farm the land. To the north, a young kingdom, with a society of magic and a worship of dragons at its core. They hunt in the thick forests and pull metals from deep within the hills. In between lies the midlands, its hills unsettled. Leaders and emmisaries from both kingdoms will often meet together here. However, with political unrest in both kingdoms and the mysterious Vanguard roaming the hills, it's unclear how long the peace will last...
Geography
The South
The south is predominantly fields of tall grasses. The landscape isn't entirely flat, but it would be a stretch to call it hilly. Large stretches of land do lay entirely flat, usually tucked between higher areas. These areas are generally unused and unsettles, as they will flood heavily in the rainy season. To the north, the landscape starts to slope into gentle hills. The climate is temperate, with mild winters. In the springtime, it gets an incredible amount of rain. The climate and soil make it a great place for farming and growing plants.
Much of the kingdom's countryside is used for agriculture. Common crops include grains such as wheat, barley, and oats, as well as a large amount of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are not grown on the same scale as grains, though, and it's common for a region to have a large estate (or estates) dedicated to growing fruits and vegetables. Many animals are also kept; sheep and pigs on a large scale, and goats and chickens by region-specific estates. Farms are found more commonly in the southern half of the region, and animals in the northern half. In the north, a large amount of horses are kept.
The kingdom's southern border is marked by a large, slow-moving river. The southernmost part of the kingdom, on the outskirts of the river, is comprised of wetlands, and is rarely ventured into by the kingdom's inhabitants. Although many have expressed a want to use the river for fishing, on a large scale, it is disallowed, as the wetlands are dangerous and many people have lost their lives.
To the west lies a large, steep canyon that marks the eastern border. The canyon continues up, through the midlands and into the north, and it's unknown where its northern edge is. When the southern river meets the canyon, it dumps into it, and the canyon continues south. The waterfall makes the area incredibly dangerous. Although it can't be scouted out, it's believed that there is a large lake at the bottom of the canyon, and the river continues on through it.
On the eastern edge lies yet another river, with this one being much thinner than the southern one. However, it's incredibly deep and fast, and the rapids have claimed many lives that have attempted to cross. On the other side of the river is a steep clifface, further dissuading anyone wishing to cross. The cliff continues south, but the eastern river pools into the southern river.
